really big US Open poll
SO - how many players do we need to put on a list for this year's US Open ? It can't just be Tiger, Phil, and The Field like so many year's past. This is going to be a wide open tournament.
I'm guessing we need to have most of the top 15 in the rankings and then the field. We can probably leave off Adam Scott with his broken pinky, Kenny Perry since he's not even there,
I took the list of top 35 in the world rankings, then added 5 more out to #63 (Paul Goydos - just for the fun of it and he's a great guy) and paired down my list of possibilities. The list naturally depends on the assumption that Tiger Woods is rusty and his knee isn't 100%. Take that out of the equation and we're back to the same 10 or 12 usual suspects plus a couple of wild cards.
SO - add or take away from this list as you wish and let's put together a poll. Maybe 6 or 8 top names, then bundle the others in groups of three ?
Top 9 - Woods, Mickelnuts, Els, Ogilvy, Furyk, Choi, Singh, Garcia, Harrington.
Group B - Cink, Henrik Stenson, Immelman, Donald, Zach Johnson, Weekley, Poulter, Goosen, O'Hair
The extra 5 - Snedeker (for that Masters performance), Allenby (playing very well lately), Verplank (likes the tough courses and is as straight as they get), David Toms (if his back holds together), and Paul Goydos (just for fun, it's close to home, and he's had a great season so far)
That's 14 outside my top 9. Maybe add Adam Scott in a group just in case that pinky isn't as big a deal as it sounds ? So the top 9 and 5 groups of three below ? Can we do a 14 spot poll ?

yep - good choice
thought about him – do you think he have the length to handle this long of a course ? he averaged 290 in Memphis and hit just over half the fairways.

it's a home game for Phil
He’s been playing the course since childhood. He knows the nuances, even with narrowed fairways and fast greens. So unless he has a meltdown, he finishes no worse than third.

the field
wow – four votes for “The Field” with all those big names out of the running.
If you dropped a ballot for The Field – who is your pick ?
