Open Thread - U.S. Women's Open Round 2
You might have guessed I've been away from the computer much of the past day and a half. And today I've mostly just been able to steal a few seconds here and there to check on things.
So I'll leave this Open Thread and hope to be able to drop in for a quick look or quick comment the remainder of this day ...
What's happening today at the Women's Open? What I see so far is Angela Park moving into contention, along with Inbee Park and Jeong Jang, and Paula Creamer staying there ...
Later: What? What? I finally get a moment to flip on the TV and look for an update, and there's a weather delay? What rotten luck ... looking at the scoreboard ... Helen Alfredsson, Cristie Kerr and Candie Kung moving up ... and amateur Alison Walshe on the leaderboard.
And Later: Darkness falls, play is called with a handful of players still on the course. Second-round play resumes at 7 a.m. Here are the leaders:
Angela Park, 140
Minea Blomqvist, 141
Inbee Park, 141
Helen Alfredsson, 141
Paula Creamer, 142
Jeong Jang, 142
Cristie Kerr, 142
Candie Kung, 142
Ji-Yai Shin, 143
Maria Jose Uribe, 143
Teresa Lu, 143
Stacy Lewis, 143
Momoko Ueda, 143
Also at 3-under - 143 is 3-under - are Ai Miyazato and Ji Young Oh, who have one hole to go in their second rounds.

make #7 driveable ?
They were just talking about Mike Davis thinking about moving the tees up on #7 from 315 yards to make it a driveable par 4 on the weekend.
When they do things like this for the men, they put the yardage somewhere between 290 and 320 – a number most of the men have in their bags.
So, if they do this for the women, doesn’t that put the yardage somewhere between 245 and 270 ? Seems awfully short.

It that hole ...
Downhill or flat? Even 245 might be too long if it’s not downhill. Think about 14 at Torrey Pines plaing 267—everyone in the field could, in theory, get it there (well, maybe not Corey Pavin). If they play a par-4 in the Women’s Open at 245, you’d still have a significant chunk of the field that wouldn’t have the option to go for it. Morgan Pressel couldn’t get there without a lot of luck. Unless it’s downhill with an open front. If they do move the tees up, that’s a much bigger advantage for the longer hitters than a driveable par-4 is for longer hitters at the men’s open.

no flat holes
Nothing is flat on this course – not even the short par 3’s – but I don’t recall if 7 is downhill or not.
This doesn’t seem like a good idea for the LPGA.

shrink wrap
they’ve been talking about her swing getting a little off kilter on the back nine – I’m thinking that those shrink wrap pants she’s wearing cut off her circulation and are tiring her out :-)

what a miserable way to spend the night
I’m the last person to feel sorry for Michelle Wie, no big secret – but she has no chance of making the cut, and she still has three holes to finish in the second round thanks to this weather delay…and one of them is the ninth – the hole she mangled on Thursday to the tune of a quintuple bogey 9. Tough thoughts to have on your mind overnight.
Maybe she’ll just stay up all night on the phone with the bf who just got drafted into the NBA Thursday night. :-)

spoke too soon
she got through 17 holes (the par 3 8th) – and bogied that one. Even worse. Leave with a bogey and the thoughts of a 9 on the last hole. ouch.
