Women's US Open a toss-up
Ok - who's your favorite for the US Open ? None of the favorites seem to be able to close the deal in the last month.
Suzann Pettersen gave away another first place check at the Wegman's.
Ochoa played the weekend pretty well, but her putter has gone goofy on her lately.
Morgan Pressel, who has a major on her mantle thanks to Suzann Pettersen's charity on the last four holes at the '07 Kraft Nabisco. Giving away 30-40 yards off the tee to half the field just puts too much pressure on the rest of her game.
Paula Creamer is playing well, but only after she plays herself out of contention. Her heart doesn't seem to be in it recently. She seems to be on cruise control, playing decent rounds, but not great rounds when it matters.
Christina Kim is up and down, but has been playing better lately. She could go on a rush, but I'm in Missouri on this one with her.
Cristie Kerr ? Maybe - she has some wins, is the defending champion, and has been gearing up for the Open the last couple of months. She could be lurking in the rough. (besides, she's just yummy) :-)
Michelle Wie ? Be serious. US Open rough could have her grabbing her wrist and running for the exit. A few bad holes and she'll fold.
I can't pick a winner - but I think the winner will come from South Korea. This crew is like a swarm of bees - you see them all coming and any one of them can sting you on a given week. The Wegman's was a good sign of that.
Your picks ?? A big name or someone out of the pack like Birdie Kim ? (would that be "out of the Pak ?) Maybe someone who has game, but hasn't lived up to the expectations to this point ?

a vote for an amateur
Interesting ! (you don’t suppose T-Joh dropped a vote on herself, do you ?) :-)

Alas ...
... the T-Joh didn’t have a fun day at her qualifier. But she might have dropped a vote on her buddies Maria Jose Uribe or Amanda Blumenherst.

bummer
Sorry to hear she didn’t do well in the qualifier – I guess if you HAVE to drop a vote on an amateur – Uribe and Blumenherst aren’t bad as second choices. :-D

Shouldn't the USGA ...
... give an exemption to the Publinx champ? The Masters puts the Publinx winner in the field, but the USGA only gives its Publinx champ an exemption from local qualifying.
Tiffany was asked in her press conference after winning the Publinx if she felt shortchanged by not getting into the Women’s Open. She said (paraphrasing), “Hey, I had my chance to qualify, so I can’t complain.” She’s a stand-up kid.

apples and oranges
don’t forget – The Masters has nothing to do with the USGA or the PGA Tour. They invite whomever they want.
But you’re right – it is odd that the USGA – the overseers of golf in America – barely recognizes the winner of the PUBLIC Links championship. The championship of us “peasant” golfers who do not belong to a private course.

yeah!
they held a spot open for the Wegmans winner, so there’s no logistical reason they can’t do the same for the WAPL!
