Open Thread: Round 2, U.S. Open
Let's see, I haven't turned on the television yet today, but a quick glance at the scoreboard shows that - at least through the middle parts of the morning pairings (nobody has finished Round 2 as I write this) the scoring is holding pretty steady compared to Round 1. And that the second-round lead will likely be less than the 3-under that led Round 1.
Use this thread to discuss today's play.

big names lurking
I like the position of Ernie Els and Geoff Ogilvy. They’re in good spots, not likely to be more than a couple off the lead. And how about Davis Love? Not bad for an old man who had to qualify!
no driver
Phil going driver-less again, like he did in the final round at Colonial. Not working too well because even hitting 3-wood he’s missing most fairways.
good quotes to finish the day
you just can’t fool Phil – “I FEEL there are some low scores out there…” No kidding, Phil ? You just played with a guy who shot 30 on the second 9 of the day.
Hey Judy, read this putt for me – “It goes ever so slightly from right to left…unless the hill on the left influences it – then it doesn’t.” Thanks a pantload, Judy, you can go sit down now. Who knew Judy Rankin was related to Yogi Berra ?

side band golf channel ?
I would really love to have a side band broadcast – like the Spanish broadcasts. Let me hear the sound of the golf course, the sounds of the shots, maybe a little conversation between caddy and player, some crowd noise – and the only broadcasting voice allowed would softly say who the player is and what shot he is playing (ex – “Tiger Woods putting for eagle on the 9th).
That’s it – no Chris Berman, no Judy Rankin, and especially no Johnny Miller correcting everybody’s shots.
