Stina on "Big Break"

Here's a post in her Golf For Women blog by Stina Stirnberg about the last episode of Big Break:

Stina says Liz and Adrienne were both "inconsolable" after their ousters. And not to underestimate Susan who "can play the pants off most of you."

Hey, Susan can play my pants off any time ... heh heh heh .... um, don't tell my wife I said that!

this is why guys don't understand women...

I've had this theory for a long time that women are competitive, but don't really understand competition in sports. Liz and Adrienne seem to add evidence to that idea.

Boys grow up competing in games and sports more than girls. (though this has been changing to some extent the last few decades) Winning and losing become just another thing we boys go through - but girls don't seem to learn how to be a good loser or how to accept a loss as a way to improve. Girls seem to just blow off what happened on the course/court/field/etc and find something else to do. Guys want to go at it again.

To become "inconsolable" after losing out in a game show like "The Big Break" isn't exactly an indictment on your golf skills. While they did get out played for elimination, the hoops they had to jump through to get into that position aren't exactly the same as tournament golf. These are games you play around the green - at least men do - I've never had a woman golf partner who liked playing these kinds of games - so it's not a shot at women. (no pun intended)

If anything, that episode should give them some things to work on in their regular games. They have holes...like all of us.

Let's hope a good cry was enough to let them get over this little setback and make them increase their efforts to improve and work their way to the LPGA Tour. They have the talent - just a few holes in the game...and between the ears.

Like I said - just a theory.

Oh - is anybody else starting to hear Hillary Clinton's voice when Stina talks ?

or at least that's your theory, right courtgolf?

And since we were not shown tape of Liz and Adrienne being "inconsolable" there's no chance that maybe Stina's description was hyperbole?

And all males react to defeat with dignity, except those that throw things, put their pitching hand through a door, or hit someone, right?

Oh, and all women sound like they were raised in a Chicago suburb, where they learned to speak with a flat "a" sound.

Funny thing is that

I had no idea, honestly, that Sergio was even in contention until after I wrote that. I still think that guys get just as upset as women over golf, they just show it in different ways (anger - Hal Sutton; petulance - Sergio; humor - Jean Van de Velde or Mark Roe; indifference - Johnny D) . But props to Sergio, even though I despise him, he came back strong and won a biggie today.

Where did you read that I said ALL women ?

For Stina to even come up with "inconsolable" as a description tells me that they weren't exactly partying.

THEORY, dear - read the words. It is a THEORY.

What the heck does Chicago have to do with anything ? Shrillary isn't from Chicago, and niether is Stina. I said that Stina's voice is starting to sound like Clinton's.

Sounds like your theory means "all" women to me. You're attaching your theory to professional athletes, which hardly seems appropriate. Of course they weren't partying, they were pissed.

My sky is gray, but it should clear in time for my 9:30 am tee time tomorrow. And before you ask, yes, I do have way too much time on my hands today.

...missed that part about Shrillary - I had her in Massachusetts - thanks for the lesson.

You skipped this part...(though this has been changing to some extent the last few decades) - that kind of takes the "all" out of your coniption.

I'm still wondering if you're trying to say that men and women view and handle competition the same way ?

Play well ! Hope having "too much time on your hands today" translates into extra energy and yardage on the golf course...don't forget the sunblock. :-)
