Blumenherst Wins Nancy Lopez Award
The blurb on LPGA.com:
Top-ranked women's collegiate golfer Amanda Blumenherst is the first amateur golfer to receive the Nancy Lopez Award in consecutive years. The Duke University junior will be presented with the award by Lopez at a dinner on May 16. The Nancy Lopez Award is given annually to the world's top female amateur, with finalists being judged on their performance as an amateur golfer during the calendar year being considered. The award was also created to help increase awareness of the accomplishments of women amateur golfer.
Hey, nothing wrong with giving Blumenherst an award. She's a beast. But I think I would have gone with Stacy Lewis, for reasons enumerated in this post from a month or two ago. Also because of Lewis' performance in the Kraft Nabisco Championship and other professional events last year.
Past winners since 2000:
- 2007 - Amanda Blumenherst
- 2006 - Morgan Pressel
- 2005 - Paula Creamer
- 2004 - Virada Nirapathpongporn
- 2003 - Lorena Ochoa
- 2002 - Meredith Duncan
- 2001 - Aree Song
- 2000 - Kellee Booth

it is CLEAR that there was an anti-waggle room bias going on here (blogism ? wagglephobics ?). WE all know that T Joh should’ve gotten this award ! :0)
