Sunday Finishes
... and Open Thread ...
PGA Tour
Last year, Ryuji Imada lost the AT&T Classic on the first playoff hole. This year, he won it on the first playoff hole. Imada and Kenny Perry finished 72 holes tied at 15-under 273, but Perry's approach on the first extra hole struck a pine tree behind the green, and bounced back across the green and into the water fronting the hole.
European Tour
Richard Finch did his best Woody Austin impersonation, and won the Irish Open. As Austin did at the Presidents Cup, Finch took a bath. Playing a ball from an embankment on the final hole, Finch lost his balance and fell into River Maigue. He recovered well enough, however, taking three putts on the green and winning by two strokes over Felipe Aguilar.
Andy Bean had a solid final-round 70 to finish one stroke better than Loren Roberts at the Regions Charity Classic. Bean bogeyed the 71st hole and badly hooked his drive on the final, but scrambled to save par and the win.
Nationwide Tour
David Mathis won his first career Nationwide Title at the BMW Charity Pro-Am, closing with a 68 and a 3-shot victory over Roger Tambellini.
LPGA Tour
Lorena Ochoa is back on top this week, claiming her sixth win of the season at the Sybase Classic over a hard-charging Morgan Pressel. Pressel, in her best showing to date in 2008, finished tied for second on the strength of a 66. But Ochoa's 71 was good enough for her third straight win in this tournament.
Mindy Kim was over par in the final round, but pursuer M.J. Hur posted 76 and Kim wound up winning by three over Jessica Shepley at the Mercedes-Benz of Kansas City Championship. "Big Break: Kaanapali" contestant Kim Welch tied Hur in third.

HOW 'bout them Dawgs !!!
You gotta love the smile on Ryuji Imada’s face (plus the tears of joy from his wife) after he closed out Kenny Perry at the AT&T. The Dawg Nation was woofin’ it up all the way back to the parking lots in celebration. I’m looking forward to seeing how his short game skills do at Augusta next Spring.
A total of 8 golfers with ties to Georgia (the state), UGA, and Ga Tech finished in the top 20, and two more in the top 52. Chris Kirk, who also left UGA last year, is doing well in his first year as a prol
As long as I’m bragging about UGA – Brendan Todd, who just left UGA after last season then proceded to rack up 2 wins on a couple of smaller tours, posted his second top 10 finish in 5 starts on the Nationwide Tour – three cuts made in five starts and is sitting at 48 on the money list.
Taylor Leon is making the most of her 4 LPGA starts – she finished T-18 at the Sybase and is 78th on the money list in just 4 starts.
