Open Thread

Sunday finishes, and discussions thereof.

PGA Tour
Johnson Wagner held off Geoff Ogilvy and Chad Campbell to win the Shell Houston Open, his first PGA Tour victory - and one that puts him into The Masters.

European Tour
A 3-way, 3-hole playoff was needed at the Estoril Open de Portugal, and Gregory Bourdy emerged as the winner. David Howell posted the best score of the final round, a 64, to get into the playoff along with Bourdy (70) and Alastair Forsyth (66).

Champions Tour
It's Champions Tour win No. 2 for Mark Wiebe. Wiebe closed with a 67 on Sunday at The Cap Cana Championship, good for a 4-stroke win over Vicente Fernandez (who recently, I believe, turned 97 years old).

Story | Scores

Nationwide Tour
Aaron Price was the winner of the Livermore Valley Wine Country Championship, defeating J.J. Killeen on the second playoff hole.

LPGA Tour
Lorena Ochoa was never threatened on Sunday at the Kraft Nabisco Championship, opening with two birdies and then marching to victory.

Ladies European Tour
Team England was the winner of the VCI European Ladies Golf Cup, a tournament using a competition format invented just for this event. Trish Johnson and Rebecca Hudson were the team members for England, which finished five shots clear of Team Germany (Martina Eberl/Anja Monke) and Team Belgium (Lara Tadiotto/Ellen Smets).

Futures Tour
Leah Wigger took a big lead Sunday morning during completion of the second round, then held on to win the American Systems Invitational despite a 75 in the third round.

30 minutes to airtime for KNC
My first look at the scoreboard today shows the leaders through 7. Ochoa with a 2-stroke lead on Han; Annika and Pettersen both 3-under today and three shots behind Lorena.

as we come on the air ...
Lorena makes birdie, takes 4-shot lead.

Nice move by CBS letting Amy Alcott intro the tournament. Watching Alcott's inaugural "Champion's Leap" again, it was really more like a stumble.

Houston
How about Freddie in contention in Houston? Good to see a University of Houston boy in the mix. Especially when it's Freddie.

can Wigger do it next week?
odds are, no.  Friberg's swing deserted her this week after winning in the big leagues, and a shaky Futures Tour win is not the best momentum-builder to knock off Lorena, but it is in Mexico where Ochoa has struggled (although not so much at this tournament) and the field is thin....

Wigger is Leah Wigger, winner of the Futures Tour tournament last week, who is in the field this week at the LPGA Corona Championship. Lots of Futures Tour golfers in the LPGA field this week - Brandi Jackson, Hwanhee Lee, Jeanne Cho, Sarah Jane Kenyon, et.al.
