Round 4 Open Thread

6:55 -- Immelman makes a terrible play on No. 16, into the water. Double bogey, drops to 8-under. But Snedeker bogeys and falls to 4-under. Tiger birdied No. 18 to get to 5-under. Tiger's probably going to finish second despite having what appeared to be a terrible final round, but was really just par for the course (as in, 72).

6:29 - Immelman up by 6 with 4 to play. This tournament is over.

6:14 - Bogey by Snedeker at No. 13 and Flesch up ahead, birdie by Immelman at 13, and Trevor now has a 5-shot lead with five holes to play.

Trevor Immelman, -10 (13)
Brandt Snedeker, -5 (13)
Steve Flesch -5 (14)
Tiger Woods -4 (14)

6:05 -- Snedeker in the water at No. 13. I'm starting to think that either Immelman will win by 4-5 strokes, or Tiger will win at 6-under.

6:00 -- Tiger bogeys No. 14, falls to 4-under. I think his best-case scenario now is to post 6-under and hope. But the way he's playing doesn't inspire confidence.

Not a very inspiring final round all-around so far.

5:55 -- Immelman bogeys No. 9, Snedeker birdies it from 35-40 feet. Immelman -9, Flesch and Snedeker -6, Tiger -5.

5:45 -- Wow. Beautiful wedge from Tiger on No. 13, recovering after a terrible tee shot, to about 4 feet from the cup. Birdie putt. Yanked it left. Don't often see Tiger just plain pull a putt. Meanwhile, Immelman is in trouble, over the green at No. 12, after just making a fantastic, long par-saving putt on No. 11.

5:39 -- Double bogey for Flesch at No. 12, so Immelman now with a 4-shot lead.

Trevor Immelman -10 (10)
Steve Flesch -6 (12)
Brandt Snedeker -6 (10)
Tiger Woods -5 (12)

5:29 ET -- Steve Flesch into the water on No. 12. And the tee shot wasn't even close - way short. Not one of those that hits the bank and rolls back.

5:17 ET - Finally a big Masters roar. For Tiger -- long birdie putt at No. 11. Woods to 5-under.

5:01 ET - With the last group through nine, not a single golfer in the last 8 pairings is under par today. So there probably won't be an Immelman meltdown, it's more like a slow burn for everyone. Snedeker is down to 6-under, Tiger to 4-under. Immelman at -10 and Flesch at -8. If Immelman steadies himself, it's looking more like Immelman and Flesch separating themselves as others fall away. But the back nine always has surprises.

4:39 ET - An Immelman meltdown? Trevor had a 3-footer on for birdie and a 5-stroke lead. He missed it. Next hole, bogey. Meanwhile, Steve Flesch birdied ahead, and the lead is two.

Trevor Immelman -10 (8)
Steve Flesch -8 (9)
Brandt Snedeker -7 (8)
Tiger Woods -5 (9)

4:04 ET - Flesch wound! Steve hit driver into the trees on No. 7. Tried to cut a ball around at tree but hit the tree instead. Ricocheted across the fairway into more trees. Third stroke short and into a bunker. Blasted out. Made a downhiller for bogey.

Snedeker bogies No. 6. Immelman now with a 3-stroke lead, 11-under to 8-under.

3:40 ET - Tiger Woods is through six and yet to do anything. Bogey on No. 4, birdie on No. 5.

Immelman gave a stroke back. Snedeker started bogey-eagle-bogey, with the eagle being one of those putts where you say, "thank goodness it hit the hole." Steve Flesch looking very solid so far.

Trevor Immelman -10 (4)
Brandt Snedeker -9 (4)
Steve Flesch -8 (5)
Paul Casey -6 (4)
Tiger Woods -5 (6)
Stewart Cink -5 (6)

No one really seems to be making a move.
It looked as though Flesch was going to make a dog's breakfast of the 7th, but he managed to only drop one shot.

Immelman - clutch par putt there at 9.

Read that phrase several years ago...
...in a Richard Ford novel. I try to work it in on occasion when appropriate.

oooooo-kay...
...but what does it mean ???  I'm guessing it's a good thing - but I've never heard that one before.

"Dog's breakfast."
A figurative mess. Definitely not a good thing.

Example:
Flesch just made a dog's breakfast our of the 12th.

I think mayber Tiger's tee shot...
...at 13 might take him officially out of the mix. Lord knows he wanted an eagle putt here.

then again.....
what a 2nd shot (and he gets to keep his 4 iron shaft this year) - and an amazing pitch !

matched by Immelman's putt at 11.

I was just about to post...
...something about my having been stupid to doubt Tiger when he missed that birdie putt. That's the kind of putt Tiger always makes.

He just doesn't seem to be in the zone with his putter this week.

and yet again ...
Tiger misses the four-footer for birdie.  Immelman's putt on 11 was big.

Immelman's putt...
...was clutch as hell. Icewater.

hey turn
where do you play around town ?

I don't, yet.
I was going to ask you the same thing.

I'm fairly new to town - just moved here for good in November. I'm not very good (usually shoot around 90) and I don't have a lot of dough, so I generally play pretty cheap courses. But I understand that there are a few public courses around town that are fairly nice and reasonably affordable.

Where do you play?

by turnover on Apr 13, 2008 6:32 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

pretty much the same
wherever I can afford to get on - there are so many good courses around town from the muni's like Mystery Valley in Stone Mountain - to the nice sort of mid range price courses like Chestatee and The Frog.

One of my favorites around town is still Wolf Creek down on the southwest corner of town.

I live in Tucker

I'm right near East Atlanta Village.
Fire me an e-mail (turnoveronline**@**yahoo.com - omit the asterisks, of course) if you want to shoot a round one of these days.

My clubs are currently stored in Huntsville, but I should be able to get my hands on them in about a week.

I can usually lay out $25-$35 for a round. Twilight specials are my bread and butter.

Candler Park
You are not too far from one of the traditional treats in Atlanta.  Candler Park is a little 9-hole course that you can play cheap, and you'll get all kinds of old time, neighborhood feel.

It's one of those places that you HAVE to play to be a real Atlanta golfer.

Now, after the leader's adventure at 16...
How big are Tiger's missed birdie putts today?

If things were different, though, they wouldn't be the same.
