Tampa Bay Bucs Coach Caddies for Daly

Something tells me John Daly is not the kind of player Jon Gruden would want on his football team. And Gruden probably isn't the kind of caddie Daly needs on his bag.

But Gruden was on Daly's bag for seven holes during the rain-delayed and interrupted first round at the Pods Championship.

How did they hook up? They found each other during a rain delay in the Hooters corporate hospitality tent. Hey, where else do you think Daly picks up caddies?

Did a new caddie help?

"Oh, yeah," Daly said. "He fires you up."

The fans who remained after the storms heard that Gruden might be caddying, and some whispered, "It is him," as they walked off the green. Gruden didn't help Daly read putts and stayed some 20 yards short of the green.

And with fans calling out to him, he kept his head down--just like Daly.

Daly is a feel player. If Gruden can count even a little bit, he can give Daly a close enough yardage.

As a pro football coach, Gruden has had to deal with a lot of out of control personalities, and has managed to keep them pretty well focused to do their jobs.

Maybe he has some words that can help Daly. He is VERY inspirational. Hearing him speak during a round might Daly's juices flowing again.

"this ball will fit in that fairway"
