Match Play

At the end of the Tiger Woods/Aaron Baddeley match today, Baddeley had putts on No. 18 and again on No. 19 to win the match. He missed both putts. Then, on No. 20, Woods had a putt to win the match. He made it. And that's the gist of things on the PGA Tour since the tailend of the 1996 season.

No big surprises today. The other remaining No. 1 seed, Steve Stricker, went out, but to Angel Cabrera. Rod Pampling took Vijay Singh to 25 holes before Vijay pulled it out. Justin Leonard continued impressing Paul Azinger.

Quarterfinal matchups:

  • Tiger Woods vs. K.J. Choi
  • Henrik Stenson vs. Woody Austin
  • Justin Leonard vs. Vijay Singh
  • Angel Cabrera vs. Stewart Cink

Excellent matchups all, but especially Woods/Choi and Leonard/Singh. Remember that Saturday is a day of 36 holes; quarters in the morning followed by semifinals in the afternoon. The Golf Channel has the morning matches, NBC the afternoon matches.
