Golf Channel Top 10 Shots of the Year

Golf Channel was airing its Top 10 Shots of the Year program tonight.  And, of course, I watched.  On the list (I think #2), was Phil Mickelson's RIDICULOUS approach to 18 from the woods that lead to a tournament winning birdie at Colonial.  They showed Phil's winning putt to cap off the package.  And no matter how you slice it, you just cannot edit out some part of the guy jumping into the pond.  In honor of that, here a clip of it from Youtube.

PS - Who is Kate Longworth - that woman hosting that program?

PPS - How in the world could the Golf Channel have coverage of the LET's Dubai Ladies Masters (Annika's supposed last event) and no live coverage of LPGA Tour Q-School?

Star-divide

And this is probably how you feel after reading this post.  (I went on a Youtube spree last night.)

typically American response

ONE guy out of thousands standing around the lake jumps in the water – not shark infested water – not pirhanna infested water – not gator infested water – just water. He didn’t affect anything in play – just made an ass of himself.

Now we have xxx Golf Channel’s continued lame reporting saying that they don’t want to advertise this sort of thing – BUT – we’re going to show it…again…and again…and again…and again.

So what is the response to ONE guy out of thousands (that’s thousands times however many years fans have been gathering at that spot) jumping in the water ? Gallery ropes…security… A typical American political correctness overreaction.

It has been more than 25 years since some guy jumped in the lake at Sawgrass – and it hasn’t happened since. Relax people at the Colonial. It’s not worth an embarrassing overreaction. And Rich – that’s lame reporting…but you’re consistent.

Overreaction? Yep, you betcha. Political correctness? No way.

yes - it's PC

are you kidding ? the PC police are out there every day finding new and exciting ways to protect us from ourselves.

you're misinterpreting

I don’t think the “authorities” care whether anyone hurts himself or not. They don’t want the entire gallery jumping in the lake, which is reasonable.

"reasonable"

and WHEN, pray tell, have you EVER seen “the entire gallery” jumping into a lake ? It’s not a “reasonable” thought.

my, we're being very literal today, aren't we?

If the “authorities” were being politically correct, rather than just “allowing” a supposedly heterosexual, white male to jump in the pond, they would have insisted that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered; african-american, hispanic and asian; men and women all be allowed to jump. That, my friends, would have been polically correct equal opportunity for all.

that makes no sense

how are you making this leap in “logic” ? (term used loosely) now you’re saying that the guy who jumped in was “allowed” to do so ? did he put in an application ? and how do you know he was heterosexual ?

Nobody is ALLOWED to jump in the lake – 99.999% of everybody who goes to a golf tournament has enough class and self control to not jump in the lake. I’m sure that the guy was escorted off the property and was told he would not be welcome back. These are usually drunks who think they are being funny – or have watched “Tin Cup” too many times. Bad behavior is never welcome at a golf tournament – and it isn’t tolerated when the offenders can be rounded up. There are ropes at European Tour events – but that doesn’t stop the streakers.

thank you

You’ve just proven that political correctness has nothing to do with the decision to put ropes up for future events.

it depends...

…on whether you are gullibile enough to think that political correctiness is a good thing – or if you realize the truth of the movement – that it is about controling the thoughts and actions of people who are supposed to be free. Look at who defines PC-ism – and then look at how they react when someone tries to apply their own rules to them.

Political correctness is defined as anything that doesn’t affirm the primacy to heterosexual white males. If you doubt me, take time to look at what you call politically correct. I’ll give you an example: If a business promotes a (woman/african-american/hispanic/physically challenged/openly gay) person rather than a heterosexual white male that business is accused of acting out of political correctness. If you’re honest, you’ll know I’m right.

LOL

no – you’re not right – you’re not even close – but you’ll save yourself a bout of carpal tunnel by just typing “anything a heterosexual, white, male does is evil”

You frequently refer to anything that upsets you as PC. Do you have an alternate definition you’d care to share?

"frequently" ?

I challenge you to go back as far as you can on here and find more than one other discussion where I have brought up Political Correctness.

And yes – I can tell you that Political Correctness is an effort (mostly) by liberals to control people’s minds and actions by defining how they are allowed to speak, act, and think.

“hate crime” is a politcally correct set of laws that puts one group of people above another. killing a homosexual is worse than killing anyone else, for example.

“sexual harrassment” as it has come to be prosecuted is extremely PC – it doesn’t matter the facts of a matter – if a woman says she was “sexually harrassed”, she is right. (a boss puts a picture of his very attractive wife on his desk – a less than attractive employee decides that is intimidating to her, so it is “sexual harrassment”)

language – it’s ok, for example, for an african-american or hispanic to call someone a name, but if a white person calls them a name, they are condemned.

xxx Golf Channel isn’t having to send anybody to Dubai for coverage – they will work from the feed. It would have cost them a good bit of money to cover a tournament where all of 5 names were recognizable. And what, a quarter of them shot even par or better ? One camera and one microphone to cover LPGA Q-school and the only person they deemed worthy of attention. Instead, they packed up the entire company and moved out to West Palm for weak coverage of the men’s Q-school. (Inga Hammond doing interviews instead of Steve Sands or Vince Cellini ? PUH-LEASE !!)

I get that

I know it’s probably just Setanta Sports’ feed or something like that. It’d be silly to send a TGC crew out there. Still, to throw up a couple of cameras to tape some action for a highlights show each night of LPGA Q-school would’ve been really easy to do.

And thanks for the website!

they DID !

Didn’t you see all that Michelle Wie coverage ? She must’ve shot 58 every day…right ? RIGHT ?? :-D

welcome

by the way...

…that was THE shot of the year in my opinion. I didn’t see the show…my guess would be that they gave #1 to a Tiger Woods shot…but that wedge over the trees through an opening you couldn’t fit a folding chair in was incredible. Especially when Phil said that he didn’t want to tell his caddie what he was thinking. :-)

Yeah, it was #2

Behind Tiger’s putt to get into the playoff at Torrey. Kinda hard to argue considering the moment. But on the merit of just what it took to pull that off, Phil’s should have won.

it figures

A putt is a putt – granted, that one was tough and in a pressure situation – but Phil’s shot was darn near impossible !
