Is Anna Rawson Really Off of the Radar?
Anna Rawson retained her LPGA Tour status with a nice T7 at Q-school this past weekend. I don't know about you, but I was keeping my eye for her, as well as Michelle Wie (suddenly more transformative than Barack Obama) and Stacy Lewis (who actually won the thing).
Over at golf.com's Press Tent blog, site producer Anne Skezer tells us that we should be keeping an eye out for Rawson.
When I met her [this Spring for an interview], I didn’t know much about her, only that she was a model/actress/golfer. I wasn’t expecting much. But she’s smart, personable and very serious about her game. Rawson didn’t make a splash at a young age like Michelle Wie, but with a little more tournament experience she should make a real name for herself on tour. The LPGA would be wise to keep an eye on her – one win could be all she needs to break into the mainstream. Plus, she already speaks English.
So, here's my question: who doesn't know about Anna Rawson?
And, as a thanks for reading and answering my question, there are gratuitous Anna Rawson pics after the jump.

muchos gracias
There is never a bad time for some Anna Rawson pictures.
But to answer your question – people know exactly the same about Anna Rawson as they did about Natalie Gulbis before she finally got her win – she’s hot, but no killer instinct – to this point…well…Rawson has a better looking swing, but uglier hats. :-)

Anna Who?
I certainly know all about Anna Rawson. She’s amazing; gorgeous, media-genic and a remarkable golfer. And, she’s one of my 878 Facebook friends. So there.
That said, the vast majority of people including most recreational golfers have no idea who she is.
Because we’re so imersed in this world, we golf bloggers often forget how little known the professionals are…even by serious golfers. If you doubt this ask around next time you’re in your club house or on course or in the pro shop. You’ll be really surprised at how few people actually know…(face / name, and a bit of background)…any of the LPGA players.
Annika, Michelle Wie….maybe Nancy Lopez. Those are the only ones that would be identifiable to the vast majority. And you know what, the men don’t fare much better. A little, but not much. I know, it’s hard to believe when you’re as immersed in it as we are, but try it next time you’re with a group of fairly dedicated golfers (don’t even bother with non-golfers). You’ll be surprised at how little recognition there is of these amazing players.

I didn't mean for that to sound incredulous
I genuinely wanted to know, so I’m glad to get some genuine answers. I guess because I am in the Deadspin world more than I am in the golf blogging world, I know a lot of the readers there know who the hottest female golfers are. A lot of my friends are diehard sports fans, so it’s tough for me to get a good gauge of how the average person thinks of golfers.
All I know is that we get a ton of hits here for Anna and Natalie pics.

famous lpga golfers
Early this past summer I took a lesson from the female assistant pro at a local course. During the lesson she was rattling off PGA Tour player names to watch as examples of the correct way to (whatever). I told her I watch the LPGA, not the PGA. Her response was, well I’m sure Annika Sorenstan does it too.

did she get the stink-eye ? :-)
I’m just imagining D giving that pro the stink-eye for not being at least a LITTLE connected to women’s golf – and then pulling Annika Sorenstam out of the air as an example ?? Come on. Annika has a fairly unique swing – it is amazingly efficient, but it requires a good bit of strength. It isn’t an easy swing to copy and be successful with.
Did you go back for another lesson ?

So long
as you don’t pick up your head before you hit the ball, you’re ok. I still don’t know how she does that.

easy
she knows where the ball is in relation to where the club will strike it. it’s like when you throw a ball… you don’t look at the ball, you look where you want it to go. i’m not saying i could do it, but i think i understand the theory behind what she does.

she's not the only one...
another former #1 in the world does it – David Duval. It’s an odd move, to be sure. A lot of tennis players do something similar.
D – you should get her an LPGA media guide for Christmas. :-)

Duval's is way worse
He almost looks away from it like Sergio did at the ‘99 PGA. I’d much prefer Annika’s move. I get what she does, but it still baffles me.

well...
…I wasn’t choosing sides – both of them got the max from their individual moves – and Duval hit the ball a VERY long way with his. It’s amazing what the human body can adjust to doing if it is done repetitively.
Hang on – have to go back up to the gallery :-)
