LPGA Q-School Coverage From LPGA.com

The LPGA has been listening and I could not be happier about it.  The LPGA Tour's Q-School starts on Wednesday and they are covering the event themselves!  I am so happy with what they are doing.

They have introduced pages for the two most well-known names - Michelle Wie and Stacy Lewis - in anticipation of the event.  The pages have information about the players' careers and biographical info.  In addition, they'll be posting media room interview transcripts.

And, what's more, they'll be posting links to stories done about the players from other sites!  Reader and poster Bill Jempty's blog entries were linked to by LPGA.com.  Though I wish they were linking to me also, I can understand why since they probably don't like me too much lately.

Go ahead and check out the blogs and let us know your thoughts.  Also, Golf News Net and Waggle Room will have week-long coverage of the event.  Our preview is up at GNN.  Additionally, About.com's Brent Kelley has a good preview that highlights the other names that you might care about aside from Wie and Lewis.

Also, stop by Waggle Room's LIVE blog of PGA & LPGA Tour Q-School!

same ol' same ol'

Michelle Wie and Stacy Lewis – big deal. Two big names. What I don’t see is any kind of serious attempt to introduce some of the other players that AREN’T household names. And these tours wonder why people don’t show up when Tiger isn’t in the field ? If all you do is piggy back on the big names, and the big names don’t come through – you’re screwed.

I agree, but

This is a start. I’ve been begging for the LPGA to do anything like this for months. I’m so happy that they’re even experimenting in this. My hope is that they’ll profile the top twenty after the event is over. They’re trying to do video profiles of their top players now, which counts for something too. They’ve been listening, so for ego purposes, I’m happier than a pig in crap.

that's just it...

…we don’t NEED video profiles of the top players – we already know who they are. I guess it makes some sense. Outside of Ochoa and Sorenstam, the players who get most of the publicity are American. Even the Koreans who win don’t get known.

(pigs wallow in mud – not crap – they are actually pretty clean animals) :-)

You have to start somewhere

May as well start with the players people know somewhat and branch out into more unknowns. By doing video features with Korean players, it could really break some stereotypes.

offensive

I know you find it offensive, CG, but Michelle Wie draws those who aren’t regular golf fans, just like Tiger does. If she makes it big on the LPGA, viewership and attendance will rise. She has the star power to attract sponsors, prize money and more tournaments in the US. No other player has that right now.

Truth has a well-known liberal bias.

amazing

you really like jumping to conclusions, D. Where do you get the word “offensive” ? That’s quite an assumption. I would have prefered having never heard of Michelle Wie again after her cute try to qualify at the Sony at age 13 – but the media and her own swollen head wouldn’t allow it. I doubt she will ever develop to the potential she had. But that’s not reality – she DID fall into the media trap and she DID waste 6 very important years of her development just to sell out for some pictures and 1/10th the money she would have had if she had waited.

but am I offended that she has an information page on LPGA.com during Q-school ? Be serious. What bothers me is that these tours don’t spread the information about the rest of the tour so that when the Wie’s and Woods fall away, the tours don’t fall flat on their faces. But that’s just me.

PGA TOUR

Don’t forget, there’s another q-school going on this week too. :)

Absolutely

It’ll be a good one too! I’m going to do a write up that one later in the day or early tomorrow to kick that event off as well.

I am pleased

that the LPGA is covering the Q-school, but I realize I don’t anything about most of the players… and I’ll admit that it’s mostly because I haven’t made an effort. But I do think there was an opportunity here to showcase or highlight some of the “unknowns” just to make it a little more interesting.

Michelle Wie…I actually like that she is keeping tight lipped and focusing on playing. I personally feel that her star power is really hinging on this event…the raw talent is there, but I think more and more people/fans are getting closer to writing her off – she has just about used up her influence to draw fans/spectators because she hasn’t channeled her talent into performance (people can only hang around so long). I give her credit for the PR success to date, but I think that ship has sailed. For her sake, and for women’s golf in general, I hope her golf talent shines this week.

good morning Daytona !!

Mother Nature can be such a pain sometimes. The LPGA builds headquarters in sunny Florida and schedules Q-school close to home. Even in December it should be comfortable…oops. How about waking up for the first round to mid 40’s ? It’s warmed up to the mid 50’s at 10am – but geez – you hope for at least 60’s in the morning in Florida ! :-) At least it’s just cool and not cold like most of the rest of the country.
