11/21 - We'll talk about the 2009 LPGA Tour schedule, the ups and downs, and how Commissioner Bivens did well. Ryan will discuss how 2010 still looms for the Tour. JP Hayes gets kudos and leads into a discussion of how golfers love their rules. Last, we set the stage for the weekend in Hong Kong on the Euro Tour and the likely Ochoa & Sorenstam-less ADT Championship.

"balked"
does “balk” have more than a negative meaning ? I thought it meant pulling back out of fear or pullng away by mistake.

rules aren't grey areas
taking complete relief is not a “grey area” – it is well defined.

what did Hayes do ?
As I understood it from JP Hayes interview with Dan Patrick, he changed balls between holes and pulled out the prototype ball – which broke the One Ball rule – and he penalized himself for using a different ball. He said it was later that evening in his hotel room that he noticed that it was the prototype ball – so he called Titleist to see if it was a conforming ball. They, of course, said it wasn’t – so he turned himself in the next morning and took the DQ.
You had him playing a wrong ball during a hole and switching to the prototype when he realized he had played a wrong ball. Where did you get your version ?

That's what I had heard
That he played a wrong ball, called a penalty. Then switched balls and that was the prototype that got him DQ’d.
Actually “complete relief” is very much a grey area in the rules. It may not be to you, but based upon rules quiz results that I have seen – it is.
I’m using balk in definition 3 sense. :)

You were right though
I went and re-read the account. My bad on that one. I will probably go back and edit that out tonight and replace it.

that's not grey
just because people get the rule wrong does not mean it is “grey area”. The rule is very much black and white.
I was pretty sure Hayes was talking about the one ball rule.

Trifecta of replies
I didn’t mean to imply that “complete relief” isn’t a term that golfers SHOULD know. They should. They just don’t – hence the “grey area” comment.

I do have to say
That I have never, ever talked about semantics (in the definition one sense) than I have since I started here at Waggle Room. Haha.

lol
semantics can be fun to play around with – but words have meanings and too many people try to make up their own meanings and screw up the language. if you choose the wrong word or phrase, you can cause all kinds of misunderstandings. (not you personally – you as a general "you")

ignorance of the law...
…is no excuse, my son :-)
grey area means there is room to wiggle – "complete relief means COMPLETE relief – you have to have your feet completely out of the hazard or GUR area. That’s what you see players doing when they stand outside a lateral or GUR, then take a club, mark where the clubhead sits, then take their two club lengths from that first tee, THEN drop.

new media player
that’s an improvement over the old one. I would still like to be able to more forward or backward inside the file. If I miss something, I still have to start the show all over again.

you're right - Daly is "safe"...sort of
There isn’t a Hooters in Hong Kong.
There ARE, however, Hooters restaurants in Beijing, Hangzhou, Chengdu, and TWO in Shanghai ! :-)

Part of me
is concerned that you looked up those locations. :)
Let me look into that media player to see about fast forward, etc. That’s gotta be a feature out there somewhere.

just curiosity
Hooters.com is never a depressing site to visit…and you can find all of the restaurants. :-)
