Golf in the Olympics: Presentation Day
Do you remember the day in 4th grade when you had to give your quarterly science project presentation? It was probably about the water cycle or something like that. But, you sat around all period hoping that maybe it would spill over to the next day and you would have JUST ONE MORE DAY to prepare.
Well, today was that day for golf - and they were among the first on the roll. Peter Dawson and Ty Votaw made the pitch today for golf in the Olympics. So did several other students: karate, squash, rugby, roller sports, baseball and softball. They're all playing for two spots in the 2016 Olympics.
Golf's presentation was one that promised a lot of star power:
Golf's pitch included videos featuring, among others, men's and women's world number one Tiger Woods and Lorena Ochoa backing the sport's Olympic aspirations.
This basically signals to me that golf in the Olympics would be a pair of 72 hole, medal play events that look an awful lot like a World Golf Championship event. I've been against golf in the Olympics since the outset, but the IOC may be swayed by the promise of the best of the best at the 2016 site. Baseball cannot deliver that and a lot of the world is not aware of superstars from karate, squash, or softball.
And roller sports had better include roller derby.
Anyway, the IOC is not ready to law down the law yet.
Following the presentations on Friday, two IOC observers will monitor the sports for six months and attend one event of each before reporting back to the IOC executive board.

any way you slice it...errr....
…well…you know what I mean….it’s just wrong. The Olympics are for amateurs – not the pros.
