Votaw: "While the proposed framework was favorably received by the Policy Board..."
You know that a quotation beginning that way couldn't mean good things for the proposed FedEx Cup 3.0 that we talked about yesterday (and a few days ago, too). It's not necessarily bad either. Well, take a look for yourself at what Ty Votaw said of the PGA Tour Policy Board meeting discussing FEC 3.0:
“While the proposed framework was favorably received by the Policy Board, no action was taken pending further review and discussion with sponsors, network media partners and players. The Policy Board will reconvene via teleconference, at which time final approval will be sought. Final action is expected prior to Thanksgiving.”
Interesting. It sounds like from Steve Elling's piece that there may be some balking from a sponsor in the FedEx Cup Playoff series. And, of course, Phil, Tiger, and Vijay have to be on board. Also, the folks at Animal Planet NBC and CBS have to weigh in.
It's likely to be approved, but will it still look like this?

what did I miss ?
I don’t see anything in here about sponsors “balking” at any proposals, or the networks casting their votes in the process ?
Cutting down on the number of points…that was the very first thing we talked about on the air. Take out some of the damn zeros !! Who can get their head around all those points ? :-)
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
It's in Elling's piece
about the sponsors, and TV is always involved.

it says
“further discussion”…nothing about networks “balking” at anything.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
From the piece
That list of players on the notification list would include heavyweights like Woods, Phil Mickelson and Singh, none of whom are members of the Policy Board. Their support for the new proposal is viewed as crucial, as is the validation from NBC and CBS, which broadcast the four FedEx events.
In addition to players expressing reservations over shrinking the FedEx field size, one of the title sponsors of the first three FedEx events was also said to be against any further cutting the number of players in 2009.

right...
…PLAYERS – not networks.
and tell the players to go sit down. start with the top 125 and go on from there.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Right
networks – “validation from NBC and CBS” – as in, “Hey, are you guys cool that we’re going to slice the fields some more?”

you said...
…that the networks “balked” at the proposals. I didn’t see that in the article.
"this ball will fit in that fairway"
I said they had to weigh in
I said a sponsor balked.

Lowering the points is smart
Totally agree. You can have the same impact with 500 points instead of 5000…or 50 million.
