An Open Invitation from the USGA
The good folks at the USGA - namely their Senior Technical Director Dick Rugge - contacted me about my question in the Jim Vernon post today about when I could take a Tour of the facilities up in Far Hills, NJ. The answer? Almost anytime I want. And, that the invitation is open to anyone who wants to see the USGA at work.
Everyday but Monday, the USGA offers tours of its renovated museum (which has received rave reviews). It features a ton of golf history. The renovations also included installing a putting green behind the museum that somewhat mirrors the Himalayas at St. Andrews.
Even neater, though, is that that on every weekday but Monday, the USGA offers a once-per-day tour of their Test Center. They perform live demonstrations of taking real measurements in their lab. And, you can have the experience of hitting century old replica clubs versus today's modern equipment. The cost is $7. Not bad at all.
I know that I'm going to head up there and make a small road trip of it and report back here on it. But, I wanted to encourage people who can go to do so. If you're a golf history or equipment aficionado, it sounds like you will really enjoy the experience.

VERY cool !
…well…except for the New Joisey part. :-) You’ll have a blast hitting hickory shafted clubs and gutta percha balls (if they have them) A replica of the Himalayas sounds great.

Hey!
Ok, I have no comeback.
However, I really should make the 2-hour drive at some point to see my USGA membership dollars at work. It sounds really cool.

Golf House is
funded with our money, so why not? That makes us stakeholders in a lot of ways.
