The Golf Channel to Produce Black History Golf Doc
TGC didn't even contact me about this one, but I found it interesting nonetheless:
Golf Channel announced Wednesday a partnership with Moxie Pictures, a media company specializing in filmed entertainment, that will produce a documentary that will air on the network in 2009 to commemorate Black History Month.
“Uneven Fairways” will bring to light the little-known, but rich history of African-Americans in golf through never-before-seen archival footage and revealing stories of the men and women who stood up to prejudice and endured indignities just to be able to play the game at its highest level. Based on the books Uneven Lies by Pete McDaniel and Forbidden Fairways by Calvin H. Sinnette, “Uneven Fairways” will tell the story of both the innovators whose place in golf history has never been adequately acknowledged, and the stalwarts who challenged the status quo and played their way into public consciousness and the annals of golf.
This is the kind of content I would like from TGC. Golf Channel Classics has always been one of my favorite things about the network. That, and game improvement. While they're still on the network, it's rare.
If you've read either of these books, please give me a recommendation one way or the other. I'm reading Bob Smiley's book right now, but I'm getting through quickly since I'm enjoying it. I need a new book!
