Sergio Ends Euro Tour Winless Streak
Sergio Garcia won the Players Championship this year on the PGA Tour, but had not been able to manage a victory on the Euro circuit in the last three years. Well, that changed today in the Castello Masters...on his home course...where his dad is the pro. But, a win is a win!
Garcia won three clear of the field, namely Peter Hedblom. This event used to be known as the Madrid Masters, but has been renamed.
The field was pretty solid, all things considered - featuring Garcia, Jose Maria Olazabal, Camilo Villegas, Henrik Stenson, and others.
Garcia's win marks the third time in Euro Tour history that a player has won on the course that they currently represent. He joins Graeme McDowell (2002 Scandinavian Masters at Kungsängen) and Makus Brier (2006 BA-CA Golf Open presented by Telekom Austria at Fontana) to complete the feat.

slightly in his defense...
…the guy only plays 4 tournaments a year on the Euro Tour. The other 7 that count on his Euro Tour record are majors and WGC events.
pretty cool record about players winning on “home turf”. I think I’ll call Augusta National and see if I can be their representative ! :-)

"this ball will fit in that fairway"
Admittedly
it was on the European Tour website – that’s why I linked to it. But, maybe they saw this and then added it.
