An Update on Seve's Condition

Golf.com has a update vis a vis the Telegraph in the UK.

Seve Ballesteros is still sedated in intensive care in a Madrid hospital, according to The Daily Telegraph, but he was allowed to wake up briefly on Monday. Ballesteros had surgery to remove a brain tumor last Tuesday and another operation to treat brain swelling last Thursday.

Since the second operation, reports on his condition have been scarce. The Telegraph reported that he responded well when he was allowed to briefly come out of sedation on Monday, and that the "doctors were considering the possibility of letting the golfer wake up more fully" today.

Still no word on the results of the biopsy.  Again, there is about a 35% chance that the tumor is benign.

What a rough situation

My thoughts are with Seve.

I hope medical science gets to the point soon where these kinds of things (malignant or benign) are as simple and treatable as hangnails.

only 35% chance of benign ?

I thought it was the other way around. Wow – that’s rough to only have a 35% chance.

I'm double checking myself now

That was what I saw in the original piece in the UK – looking up some medical research now.

Ok, here's what I can find

Some scattered thoughts on this idea:

The Brain Tumor Society says there’s about a 44% chance of it being benign. This article says around 40. 35 was probably a little low from the piece.
