Olympic Golf Non-Update Update
The folks at the International Golf Federation - the body that promotes global amateur golf and the current bid to get golf into the 2016 Olympics - provided a press release with an update on their activities.
Basically, Ty Votaw got everyone together at the World Amateur Team Championship in Australia and asked with them to support the movement in any way they can while providing an update on progress made. As for what that progress is...the release doesn't say.
Interestingly enough, though, we were reminded of golf's competition:
The IOC will determine in October 2009 whether to add no more than two of seven sports under consideration for the 2016 Games: golf, baseball, karate, roller sports, rugby sevens, softball and squash.
Really? I am not in favor of golf in the Olympics as has been presented (professional 72 hole event, snoozefest), but if golf can't beat out five other sports to get into the Olympics, then this is insanity.

"roller sports" ??
I guess they couldn’t just say “a bunch of smelly kids on skateboards and bicycles who play really loud chainsaw music and provide a wide range of obscene gestures.” :-)
Interesting that they had this meeting at an amateur event. I wonder how much chance there is that they would get a new Olympic event right and only allow amateurs to play ?
