Tiger's Agent: Apology Accepted, Case Closed

Will the reaction from Tiger Woods' camp to Kelly Tilghman's incredible faux pas during the Mercedes-Benz Championship broadcast - don't make me repeat it - be enough to save her job, or even save her from a suspension?

Apparently so. The Golf Channel says no disciplinary action is planned.

First, Tilghman and the Golf Channel issued statements late Monday. The Chicago Tribune excerpted each.

From Tilghman:

"On Friday during our golf broadcast, Nick Faldo and I were discussing Tiger's dominance in the golf world and I used some poorly chosen words. I have known Tiger for 12 years and I have apologized directly to him. I also apologize to our viewers who may have been offended by my comments."

From the Golf Channel:

"We regret the unfortunate choice of words Kelly used during the broadcast and apologize to anyone who was offended by her remarks. ... We take this matter very seriously. She has apologized privately to Tiger and publicly on the air."

The Long Island newspaper Newsday was the first to report on the incident, and reported late yesterday that Tiger's agent, Mark Steinberg, issued a statement through the Golf Channel:

"This story is a non-issue. Tiger and Kelly are friends and Tiger has a great deal of respect for Kelly. Regardless of the choice of words used we know unequivocally that there was no ill intent in her comments. This story is a non-issue in our eyes. Case closed."

as expected...
...it took 5 days for this story to get picked up in the media.  If not for the ignorant blog of Ron Johnson, I'm not sure anybody would have made a big deal out of what happened last week.

BUT - as expected - the race bating article written by Johnson has become the center of attention and not the accepted apology by Tiger from Tilghman.

Decency doesn't sell papers or make for talk radio hype.

Ron Johnson is a hypocrite - but nobody cares.
