The Hot List

I always enjoy flipping through the annual Golf Digest "Hot List" - the magazine's equipment rankings based on an equipment panel's testing - even though I'm not a gearhead.

I like finding upsets and underdogs in the rankings, especially when I run across a smaller company whose driver or irons or whatever outpolled some of the big boys' equipment. In this year's "Hot List" there was even one company represented that I had never heard of.

The "Hot List" is in the February issue. I was planning on using this post to list all the equipment given the highest ranking of "Gold." And I started compiling that list. And then I thought, "This is going to take a while." Quickly followed by, "And I'm hungry."

So instead of doing all that work, I'll just link you to the article: Golf Digest's Hot List 2008.

Hey Stu,

Here's a different take on the current hot equipment out there, with a little humor mixed in. A little less rigorous that Golf Digest.

Not that anybody but me cares, but...

...on pages 32-33 of this issue is a picture of Michael Campbell's US Open victory at Pinehurst #2. On page 33, wearing a red shirt, khaki shorts, black baseball cap, and holding a microphone is MY friend - Brian Katrek - calling the action for XM/PGA Tour Radio.

We got to play #2 a couple of years ago, and this picture is on the wall in the clubhouse. An older gentleman came up behind us and said that if your picture is on that wall, you get to play Pinehurst for free. You can imagine the celebration when he found out this news.

Unfortunately, the guy walked off when we showed him who was in the picture. Oh well.
