kelly tilghman - new and improved??

i thought so on the first broadcast anyway ... she seemed more relaxed ... seemed to have more confidence dealing with faldo ... its totally subjective but my ears anyway she was a whole lot less annoyint than last year ... maybe its gonna be a much better year for kelly on the golf channel ...

anyone agree or disagree??

completely disagree
sorry - I can't agree with you on Tilghman.  I was hoping beyond hope that she would have improved at least a little over last year - but it just didn't happen.

She is still using the word "drama" way too much, and in places it really doesn't belong.  Her cliche book has only expanded.

To make it worse, she became a buzz killer.  Several times, Faldo and Pepper or someone else calling the action got into a discussion that had everybody laughing...until Tilghman just had to toss in her little comment.  As soon as she chimed in, the laughter stopped.

She just isn't on a level of understanding with Faldo and Pepper and the other former pro's on the broadcast - and she doesn't seem to be able to get away from her cliches.

I don't know if it is just nerves, or maybe she is still intimidated by sitting next to Faldo, or what the problem is - but she just doesn't work in that chair.

Put Tilghman back in the studio reading the news.  She was excellent there.  She just can't do this job.

unfortunate
I heard that comment from Tilghman - knew she would get jumped on for it - then dismissed it knowing that she was just trying to be "dramatic". (using her favorite word)

If Woods had been standing next to her in the booth, my guess is he would've shot her a glance, followed by that big grin of his and a playful elbow nudge just to needle her a bit.

The real shame is the people who go leaping off of their couches ready to crucify anyone who makes an innocent, yet incorrect, choice of words like this.

I am not a Tilghman fan for live golf - but I do know how difficult it can be to spend 4 hours having to speak more or less off the cuff and be expected to do it without making a mistake of any kind...which is probably why she is a huge cliche machine.

Another Southern Closet Racist?
Just asking out loud here: Since Kelly was born and raised in South Carolina, went to college at Duke, in North Carolina, might it be possible Kelly, in her comments on lynching Tiger, be a closet racist?  By that I mean one who grew up in a culture of white southern golf eltists who play golf at courses where blacks cannot join or play.  I bet if her family goes to church, it's an all white church congregation. She probably grew up hearing (and possibly influenced) by comments most southern whites use among themselves(I have relatives myself who talk this way, so I know) as: calling black males by the name "boy"; using the "N" word; defaming the looks of blacks (afros, noses, lips, etc.); etc.
Most white Americans do not realize that blacks were lynched in the South as recently as 1970 if not later (in Mississippi).  Once in a while you will hear comments "slip out" of the mouths of whites that simply reveal what's on the inside of their minds that normally that they would never say outloud in public.  But the thoughts, language, and bigotry are still there simmering near the surface.  Just look at how many notables have been caught this past couple of years using terms or comments that "shock" most people.  Believe me, coming from a family history of southern racist bigots (and slave holders)that I am sorely ashamed of, racism is still alive and well in the U.S.  It's mostly clandestine (undercover), but it is still there and shows its ugly head on occasion when least expected.

yankee go home...
...JUST kidding...mostly.  Gary, take a little time to learn a bit more history.  Faulty assumptions lead to very poor conclusions.  Here's an example - did you know that New Jersey was once one of the largest strongholds of the KKK ?  That organization was spread across the entire USA.

Assuming that just because someone grew up in the south they will automatically be a racist is pure lunacy and does nothing but put another wall between people. Your assumption also means that lynchings only took place in the south - wrong again.

Are we to also assume that race relations in the north or west or central part of the US are just peachy ?  All churches are integrated in the north, but none in the south ?  Guess you haven't been to such bastions of equality and freedom as Detroit, or Washington DC, or Boston, or...

Hate to burst your bubble, Gary, but bigotry, prejudice, and yes, even true racism exists in all corners of the world - it's not just white to black, or black to white, or any other color or creed you'd like to pick - hell, even the peace loving Muslims kill each other because they don't like their neighbor's mosque.

On second thought - I'm GLAD to burst that bubble.
