Tiger Woods "Headed in Right Direction"

The genius of Tiger Woods is that he looks at all he's accomplished and says not, "I am soooooooo good," but, rather, "I really need to work on improving my ..."

Woods is in Dubai this week for the European Tour's Dubai Desert Classic. And he said today:

"Hopefully my good years are still ahead of me."

And added:

"One of the reasons I made the changes I made is I knew I could attain another level - and here we are. I'm hitting shots that I never could hit before, even in 2000. I'm actually hitting the ball better now than I did during that stretch.

"I still have holes in my game that I need to fix and need to improve on. I just think that what I've been working on, I'm headed in the right direction."

Did you know that Woods is third on the European Tour's career victories list? Surprising for someone who rarely plays in Europe. But it's true:

  1. Seve Ballesteros, 50 wins
  2. Bernhard Langer, 42
  3. Tiger Woods, 33
  4. Colin Montgomerie, 31
  5. Nick Faldo, 30
How did Tiger get onto to that list? Well, the totals for Ballesteros, Langer and Faldo include their majors, which count as Euro Tour victories. So Tiger gets a boost there. And WGC events also count as European Tour wins, so he gets an even bigger boost there. Combine those two totals - his majors and his WGC wins - and throw in a few Dubai Desert Classic wins, et.al., and you've got 33 European Tour wins. (The European Tour doesn't recognize Woods on its official list because only Tour members are included.)
