More Weather Woes at Solheim Cup

After a dreadful opening day at the Solheim Cup - not the golf, which was great, but the weather - the Saturday matches were delayed by nearly three hours this morning in Sweden by high winds.

According to the AP, winds were blowing over fences and causing balls to move on the greens. When play finally did get under way in the morning foursomes, the wind was still gusting up to 40 mph.

The foursomes are now complete, and the U.S. and Europe split, two points apiece, so Team USA still leads by one point overall.

Afternoon matches will get started, but the golfers will have to complete the four-balls on Sunday morning, prior to the singles. There's also a chance that the Solheim Cup could be extended into Monday.

Saturday Foursome Results

  • Sherri Steinhauer/Laura Diaz, U.S., halved with Gwladys Nocera/Maria Hjorth, Europe
  • Juli Inkster/Paula Creamer, U.S., halved with Suzann Pettersen/Sophie Gustafson, Europe
  • Pat Hurst/Angela Stanford, U.S., def. Iben Tinning/Bettina Hauert, Europe, 4 and 2
  • Annika Sorenstam/Catriona Matthew, Europe, def. Nicole Castrale/Cristie Kerr, 1-up

Saturday Four-Ball Pairings

  • Natalie Gulbis/Nicole Castrale, U.S., vs. Becky Brewerton/Laura Davies, Europe
  • Paula Creamer/Brittany Lincicome, U.S., vs. Linda Wessberg/Maria Hjorth, Europe
  • Juli Inkster/Stacy Prammanasudh, U.S., vs. Trish Johnson/Iben Tinning, Europe
