Notes from the Tours

A few interesting factoids from the pro tours, courtesy of the PGA Tour:

  • Tiger Woods is a great pick to win the WGC Bridgestone Invitational this week - he's won it five times in the past after all. But his record in this event is even better than that, if you can imagine such a thing. Woods has played this tourney eight times and in the three years he didn't win, he finished no lower than fourth. So eight appearances, five wins, and never worse than fourth.
  • Hunter Mahan is on a great roll heading into Bridgestone. He has four straight Top 10 finishes, including a win at the Travelers Championship. He's now 14th on the Presidents Cup points list and would make a great captain's pick for Jack Nicklaus is he fails to get into the Top 10. The U.S. needs to start getting some younger players into the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup mix.
  • Jim Furyk made a hole-in-one during the final round of a tournament he won, the Canadian Open. It was the first time that's happened since Joey Sindelar holed a tee shot in the final round en route to winning the 1985 B.C. Open.
  • In the last four Champions Tour tournaments, Loren Roberts has finished first, then second, then third, then fourth. Will he finish fifth at this week's 3M Championship?
  • Bruce Summerhays didn't play the Senior British Open last week, ending his streak of 166 consecutive starts on the Champions Tour. That's the third-longest streak in tour history, behind Dana Quigley's 278 straight and Mike McCullough's 177 straight. Quigley's streak seems unbreakable. But just give Vijay Singh a shot at it.
