At Least Lorena Ochoa is No Ben Hogan!
Ben Hogan - what a loser! What a choker! The guy's got no heart, no guts. He can't take the pressure.
That's probably what we'd be saying today about Hogan if he were in the early stages of his career.
So while we're all gnashing our teeth and wringing our hands about Lorena Ochoa's failure to win a major thus far (and Ochoa is probably gnashing and wringing more than anyone), let's remember three things:
- Ben Hogan won 30 times before he won his first major.
- Sam Snead won 27 times before he won his first major.
- And more recently, Phil Mickelson won 23 times before he won his first major.
There's no denying that Ochoa has been badly affected by pressure on many occasions so far in her young career. She gets some funny actions in her swing and even her putting stroke - head movements in both cases - when the tension gets thick.
We just shouldn't be too hard on her, and I hope she's not too hard on herself. She'll win a major soon. She's simply too good not to. I predict it will happen next month at the Women's British Open. I think I'll pick Ochoa to win every major until she actually does win that first one. I'm guaranteed to be right eventually!
