Queen of Aces Hits 13 (Or Maybe 14) Holes-in-One Since January

About a month ago we posted about Palm Springs, Calif., resident Jacqueline Gagne's incredible feat of making 10 aces in four months.

Well, Gagne's still going. She's since made 3 more aces - or 4, if you want to count a holeout from the tee on a penalty shot - for a total of 13 or 14 holes-in-one this year.

And one of them was caught on video.

Is Gagne's story believable? Well, every one of the aces has been investigated by the clubs where they occurred, and so far all but two have checked out (two aces Gagne reported making in the same round at a course where she does not normally play have not yet been verified by that course, although they were attested to by a couple witnesses).

As for the video: A crew from a local television station was filming Gagne on a par-3 when her tee shot went into the cup. (This one is not technically an ace, having come on a penalty shot - she was hitting three when she re-teed.) The video itself does not clearly show the ball dropping into the cup, but it does catch everyone's reaction to the ace, the ball being retrieved from the cup, and makes clear that no one ran out from behind a tree to kick the ball into the cup. Plus, the TV news crew saw the ball fall in, even if it wasn't clearly caught on the video.

You can watch the video here. (Hat tip to Sportsscope)

If this is all a hoax, it is one of the more elaborate hoaxes recently pulled off: dozens of "witnesses" would have to be lying, and there'd have to be one very luck shot caught on camera.

A good rule of thumb about conspiracy theories is this: The more people who have to be involved to make the conspiracy work, the less likely the theory is to be true.

Except for my theory about the Illuminati, Freemasons, Trilateral Commission, Cirque de Soleil and David Hasselhoff conspiring to prevent me from "caddying" for Natalie Gulbis. That one is true!
