"Nothing Like" Going Back to Samsung for Wie
Michelle Wie's 2007 schedule continues to round into form, with news coming today that she has accepted a sponsor's invitation to play in the 20-player-field Samsung World Championship again in October.
Said Wie:
"It's an honor to be invited to play in the Samsung World Championship," Wie said. "There is nothing like going back to where my professional career started, and playing against the best players in the world. I'm excited for the opportunity."
There is nothing like going back to where my professional career started. A statement like that shows you that Michelle's PR firm (which surely crafted the statement) dozed off for a bit. Wie's professional career started at the 2005 Samsung, where she was disqualified. Yep, nothing like going back to where that happened. (That's where Sports Illustrated reporter Michael Bamberger watched Wie commit what he believed to be an infraction, but didn't point it out until such time as a DQ was the only option. Good way to get a story.)
At any rate ... Wie has now committed to playing the Ginn Tribute, Canadian Open and Samsung. She'll be in the U.S. Women's Open, British Women's Open and LPGA Championship. You can count on her being in the Evian Masters, and the HSBC Match Play seems a very good bet, too.
