Justin Timberlake Wants to Play Professional Golf

As The Golf Girl reported a few days ago, Justin Timberlake was spotted playing golf at Carnoustie recently, and was promptly mobbed by young girls who apparently hide in the gorse waiting for hot young boys to come along.

Justin is a man who takes his golf seriously. So seriously, according to a new report, that he hopes to someday play in a PGA Tour event or two:

Justin Timberlake wants to become a professional golfer.

The 26-year-old singer is getting so good on the greens he is hoping to land a place on the Professional Golf Association (PGA) circuit.

A source said, "Justin is a very keen golfer and he's playing to a very high standard now."

Golf fanatic Justin - who plays off a six handicap and is a member of Los Angeles' exclusive Sherwood Country Club - is determined to fulfil his ambition before he is 30 and is practicing as much as possible.

The source added, "His aim is to make it into a pro event - just for a tournament or two. He practices every day, has a coach and takes his clubs wherever he goes."

The author of this report doesn't know that the PGA and PGA Tour are two different and sometimes competing entities. Overlook that.

Don't overlook that the author also doesn't grasp that a 6 handicap is a looooooong way from PGA Tour caliber. However, it's also a faaaaaar higher level of play that 90-percent or more of golfers will ever achieve.

Here's my advice to Timberlake: Play a few celebrity tournaments (or even better, high-profile amateur tournaments) and demonstrate to PGA Tour tournament officials that you can play at a high level. If you can average, say, 72 or 73 on the celebrity circuit, you'll have a shot at getting invited to play in a PGA Tour tournament via a sponsor exemption. Those guys want publicity, and you're probably the next best thing to Michelle Wie.

Timberlake may never reach his goal. But one thing is certain: if he does get into a PGA Tour tournament, Joey Fatone should be available to caddie.
