Leadbetter Says Yet More About Wie
David Leadbetter is sounding more like the PR rep for Michelle Wie than her instructor. But then, she needs all the PR help she can get.
CBSSportsline.com now has a lengthier article than the Telegraph one we wrote about earlier today, with more expansive comments from Leadbetter.
Among the things he says in the Sportsline piece:
- Wie will skip the spring semester at Stanford in order to play more frequently within a tighter time frame on the LPGA (i.e., rather than seven sponsor exemptions spread over the full season, she'll use up most of those exemptions in the spring and early summer ... at least, that's what I think it means).
- She'll return to Stanford for the fall semester.
- Her 2008 debut will come in one of the tournaments in Hawaii in February, the Fields Open or SBS Open ... or she might play both.
Stay tuned. Perhaps Leadbetter will issue another communique later today ... Meanwhile, the Sportsline article is here.
I'll just add that - assuming Leadbetter is on target - it sounds like Wie is finally starting to take Lead's advice. Leadbetter has been opposed to her playing men's tournaments for a while; and has also been advising for a while that she play more tournaments together in order to get into "competition shape" (e.g., playing a tournament here, a tournament there prevents any momentum or positive carry-over). Again, assuming Leadbetter is right in what he's saying today, these are good signs.

uh huh
Come on Stu - you're forgetting that Michelle is the one making all the decisions. Obviously, Leadbetter has been influenced by HER thinking and is only echoing her thoughts...
She...err....He does make sense, encouraging her to put more tournaments together to hopefully build up some toughness.
